Comedian Steve Coogan is among the latest round of people to have settled claims for damages in the phone-hacking scandal.

This is not the kind of area we’d usually cover so obviously we feel out of our depth and exposed as obviously we never read a newspaper but Mr Coogan is a comedian and it’s our duty to bring you all news relating to ‘funny’ however random or serious. So here goes…

Settling his claim against News International, Steve Coogan said he wanted to expose ‘the depths to which the press can sink in pursuit of private information’, reported the BBC.

He’s received £40,000 in damages but said, ‘This has never been about the money.’

Apparently, he wanted to expose the company for the ways in which the press have been operating. ‘Like other people who sued, I was determined to do my part to show the depths to which the press can sink in pursuit of private information.

‘The police and the Leveson Inquiry will be investigating these matters but at the time, when these civil cases began, News International seemed likely to succeed in covering up the hacking scandal completely. ‘Neither the police nor the government were willing to hold those responsible accountable for unlawful acts."

Reading this now, it seems a very rum deal. We’re happy people are getting to the bottom of it.

And finally, do you want to talk about Steve Coogan’s hair? Could do with a brush through it?
