It’s come to light that a Swedish reporter snooped on the England squad ahead of last Friday’s crunch clash and passed Roy’s secret team tactics on to the Swedish team.

According to The Sun on Sunday, or whatever it’s called these days, Ola Billger used binoculars to spy on Roy Hodgson’s team briefing through the glass roof of England’s training camp at Hotel Opera in Kiev.

Billger, of Stockholm paper Svenska Dagbladet, spent 40 minutes making notes as Roy discussed team tactics for defending corners and set pieces before passing the information on to the Swedish team.

Describing how he watched Roy’s slide show on a projector screen, Billger said, "England decided to lay all their secrets out before me. What was I supposed to do - look away?"

Perhaps the biggest shock about this story is that England used a slide show. This is 2012, you'd think the The FA could afford an iPad. We all want a repeat of 1966 but that doesn't mean we need to use 60s technology.

After snooping on Roy’s plans, Billger phoned Swedish assistant coach Reine Almqvist who said, "Thanks for all your help. This is really, really good."

Anyway, The Sun on Sunday or whatever it’s called these days, contacted the Swedes last night and a press officer Hans Hultman confirmed, "Yes, we had a lot of help from it."

Of course, the England camp would never stoop to something that low just to win a football match. But we would.

This morning we broke into the Ukraine team hotel and navigated our way through the intricate ventilation system to spy on their team briefing. That’s how we discovered that their secret to beating Roy’s boys is:

Score 1 more goal than England.

AN APOLOGY: En route to the Ukrainian team briefing we took a wrong turn in the ventilation system and came out in the Honeymoon Suite where we interrupted newlyweds Mr and Mrs Lazarus from Kiev mid-celebration. We sincerely apologise for this.

And for taking 83 photos.
