The government (stop yawning at the back) is currently planning to introduce same-sex marriage and the Church of England isn’t happy about it.

According to media reports, some senior clergy see same-sex marriage as the biggest threat to the Church of England in its 500-year history, and worry it’ll force the church out of its traditional role of conducting weddings on behalf of the state.

It’s a bit ironic really as Henry VIII only created the Church of England so he could divorce his wife and be free to marry whomever he wanted.

For us, it’s a no-brainer: If two people are willing to commit and put up with each other for the rest of their lives, this should be celebrated regardless who they are, be it a man and a man, a woman and a woman or a man and a little pig. OK maybe not that last one, but you get the point. So let's attack the haters, not the lovers, people. Blimey, we sound like John Lennon. Or Yoda.

That’s why we’re saying, “I do” to same-sex marriage with a quick glance at our favourite same sex pairings.

The Green Lantern &…Um…his boyfriend

When DC Comics announced that one of their superheroes was going to come out of the closet, everyone assumed it had to be Robin. Well, have you seen Joel Schumacher’s Batman movie? The batsuits had nipples. Nipples. But no, they announced last week that it’s the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott. Good for him.

Cynthia Nixon & Christine Marinonni

When the Sex and the City star (pictured) and Christine Marinonni married in May 2012, Nixon said, "I’m just a woman in love with another woman" which we’re sure is also the synopsis of a SATC plotline featuring Samantha.

Elton John & David Furnish

And finally, how could we forget the patron saints of same-sex marriage? Elton Hercules John and his partner David Furnish celebrate their 20-year anniversary next year, don’t you know. Don’t forget to send a card.

So come on church elders, it’s plain to see that same-sex marriage brings nothing but joy to the OK Magazine masses, so the time is right to do the right thing and embrace it.

For, as Yoda once said, "Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.".
