Held at the Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C. the 30 Rock creator enjoyed an evening of tributes from stars like Amy Poehler, Tracy Morgan and Steve Martin before receiving the prize which recognises and honours ‘those who define contemporary comedy’.
At 40, Fey is the youngest person to win the award and joins Whoopi Goldberg and Lily Tomlin as the only women to have won the award which was created in 1998.
Other winners include Bill Cosby, Steve Martin, Billy Crystal and Richard Pryor.
Many of Fey’s showbiz pals adorned the red carpet to congratulate her including Date Night co-star Steve Carell and 30 Rock chums Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski and Jon Hamm.
BBC News writes that Baldwin, dressed up as Twain, channelled his inner Jack Donaghy as he presented Fey with her award joking: ‘Tina, well that’s a funny name for a man.’
He added how he was shocked a woman managed to win the award because ‘their brains aren’t shaped right.’
