Lawyers for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will breath a sigh of relief at Gervais' absence, as will Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Sarah Jessica Parker, Johnny Depp, Angleina Jo… well just about everyone really. Everyone except Sarah Palin, that is.
Will we see the return of Fey's famous Palin impression? We can only hope. It's scary but Tina could probably have made it to the White House dressed as Palin, if only the ex-wannabe-VP had got elected. Tina Fey could have had her finger on the nuclear button. Now that's comedy. And probably much safer than Sarah Palin having her trigger finger on annihilation.
After Gervais' third outing at the Globes, it did look like the act was running a little thin. He only managed to offend Kim Kardashian, Mel Gibson (again), Eddie Murphy and Jodie Foster's 'Beaver' in 2012. Viewers who were upset in 2010 and 2011 complained that they weren't upset enough this year.
Not that Fey and Poehler are likely to pull any punches. In a recent 30 Rock plot, Mitt Romney's running mate Paul Ryan had to drop out of the race because he was actually born in Kenya. So no one is safe. Except maybe Jodie Foster's 'Beaver'.
