Poor old furniture maker Aidan is essentially road kill on the Carrie and Big highway of passion. He was a real gent to her as well; he didn't try and sleep with her after their first date, he took her away for a nice romantic weekend in the country and he even welcomed Carrie back into his life after she cheated on him with Big. The term "nice guys finish last" comes to mind.
