Jon Cryer plays Charlie’s tightly wound brother Alan Harper. Alan is a single father whose ex-wife might possibly be a lesbian.
Her marriage in later episodes seems to put that rumour to rest, but hasn’t seemed to have helped Alan simply chill the hell out.
Aside from his work on Two and a Half Men, Jon has starred in a number of feature films including No Small Affair, Pretty in Pink and Hot Shots! alongside Charlie Sheen, to name but a few.
He is also the co-writer, producer and star of well-received independent films The Pompatus of Love and Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God... Be Back by Five.
Jon has won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on Two and a Half Men, and made his directorial debut with an episode of Two and a Half Men during its fourth season.
With a string of other US TV appearances under his belt, he has appeared on stage in many Broadway productions including Brighton Beach Memoirs and Torch Song Trilogy.
