Turns Out Mitchell And Webb's New Sitcom Will Be NOTHING Like Peep Show
Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that David Mitchell and Robert Webb are developing a new sitcom. Details of the plot are starting to emerge, and we're promised the show will be very different to Peep Show indeed.
The sitcom, titled Back, will be set around a pub (we're already sold), and Mitchell and Webb will play brothers, in a show they describe as "very much more middle-aged".
Mitchell plays Stephen, who inherits the pub from his father after his death, and Webb will play Andrew, his charismatic former foster brother, who turns up at their father's funeral.
Other cast members include Julia Deakin (Stephen's mother), who played Marsha in Spaced, and Louise Brealey (Stephen's sister), who played Molly Hooper in Sherlock. According to Channel 4, neither of these characters have any interest in the family business, but would rather smoke weed all day. We love 'em already.
While the script is being written by Simon Blackwell, who wrote four episodes of Peep Show, the show will explore new territories.
Speaking to Chortle, Phil Clarke, Channel 4’s head of comedy, said: "Simon has written a very funny and clever script with a strong emotional heart that takes Robert Webb and David Mitchell in a new and genuinely intriguing direction."
He continued: "To have Mitchell and Webb and Simon Blackwell working together is a very exciting prospect. It’s a unique configuration of some seriously big comedy minds."
Ben Palmer, who directed The Inbetweeners Movie, is directing the half-hour pilot and we can't wait to see it.
