Leap year proposals go back to 5th century Ireland, where Celtic nun St Bridget rallied St Patrick to allow one day, every four years, for a women to pop the question.
It’s nonsense, of course, but there’s a huge number of people who take it seriously. And in the excitement of it all, many women forget that bending down on one knee can end in disaster.
