Properly credible, exciting new Harry Potter trivia is hard to come by these days.
Superfans have already trawled the books and movies for mistakes and inconsistencies and EVERYONE'S got a conspiracy up their sleeve (don't get us started on The Cursed Child - WHY DON'T SCORPIUS AND ALBUS KISS AT THE END FFS?!).
But a brand new fan theory about The Chamber Of Secrets is so simple, it's ridikkulus - and we can't believe we didn't spot it before.
Redditor KP09590 thinks that J.K. Rowling hid a secret Easter Egg in the book, hinting that Salazar Slytherin's Basilisk wasn't the evil monster we all thought.
Basically, the theory states that the Basilisk was never a bad guy in the first place - it just did what it was told (and helped Harry along the way).
As Dumbledore once said, "It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities."
Looks like the creature was a good guy all along.
