Friends would be nothing without Chandler's one liners and Phoebe's all-round bizarreness. So IMAGINE our surprise when this news story surfaced:
THEIR CHARACTERS WERE NEARLY LEFT OUT OF THE SHOW.
When the sitcom was first written (originally called 'Insomnia Cafe' - weiiiiird!) Pheebs and the Chan Chan Man were penned as peripheral characters who popped in occasionally. The plotlines were going to focus on Joey, Ross, Monica and Rachel only.
A poll we here at Comedy Central ran for Friendsfest in 2016 revealed that Chandler was the second favourite character out of the gang - and Phoebe came in fourth.
It was Ross who took first place (we know, we don't get it either), while Joey came in third, Rachel was fifth and Monica bottomed out at sixth place. Yikes.
What's more, Rachel almost exited the show before the final series began, as Jennifer Aniston said in the early 2000s she wasn't sure "how much Rachel she had left in [her]." Oh, what could have been!
FIRST OF ALL, BUT FRIENDS:
