You may remember South Park's famous "The Simpsons Already Did It" episode, an inspired take on the frustration felt in the writers' room when they spent hours on an idea only to realise that, well, The Simpsons already did it.
It's tough, because The Simpsons has actually been on television since the beginning of time, before Pangaea split into separate continents, which means that it has basically done everything.
And we mean everything.
But now South Park has rocked on for almost twenty years, and the gang has done a lot in that time. So much that it's sometimes hard for the writers to remember it all.
Which means that occasionally they'll come up with an awesome idea, toss it around for a while, then realise that they've seen it somewhere before.
And it's not from The Simpsons. No, it's from South Park itself, ten years ago.
Seriously, do you know how hard it is to keep up this quality content?
So it turns out the writers are trapped in an endless loop, chasing story ideas until the end of time.
This is all from a great interview with South Park's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, at Comic Con, so if you want more insights into their creative process be sure to check it out.
