I first watched Mrs. Doubtfire the way every 90s kid watched Mrs. Doubtfire: hiding out in the living room with the other Christmas party orphans, while our parents got sozzled on cheap cava and snowballs.
Honestly, it's the perfect holiday movie. The hard-working, fun-loving Dad who just wants to see his kids. The "any closer, and you'd be mom" makeover session. The "oh, I'm just gonna poison my ex-wife's new boyfriend" restaurant caper. It's a god damn tour de force, that's what it is.
But there's one thing, one niggling little question mark, that hangs over Robin Williams' saccharine little masterpiece: what the fuck was that weird face smushing video the Hillard kids were watching?
RIGHT? BET YOU FORGOT ABOUT THIS FUCKED UP LITTLE CLIP, DIDN'T YOU!?
But fear not, reader, for we (as very professional investigative journalists) have finally uncovered exactly what weird (and age-inappropriate) show you've been wondering about for twenty years.
Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in-between... We give you...
THE OUTER LIMITS
Specifically, an episode called The Hundred Days of the Dragon, where an 'oriental' (fucking hell, 1963) spy infiltrates the US government, by changing his face to look like the President.
You can watch the whole thing below, but we're guessing you only really wanna stick around to watch the nightmare-inducing, face smushing, transformation scene (starting at 5:30)
SORRY FOR THE NIGHTMARES!
